Vendor Spotlight: Rockstar Brownies – 'The Sweet Success of Ang - Baking Bold'

If you’ve visited our market over the past couple of years, chances are you’ve already been lured in by the rich, chocolatey goodness of Rockstar Brownies. But behind those perfectly cut squares is an equally sweet story — and a vendor who’s become a much-loved part of our market family. 

Ang, the mastermind behind Rockstar Brownies, joined us back in early October 2022 at our Honeywood Farmers Market. But her journey began well before that, during the challenging times of the COVID pandemic. At the time, she was creating stunning cakes and cupcakes, each one decorated with intricate, flower-like icing that looked almost too good to eat. A former barista, Ang has always had an eye for detail and a love for creating things that bring joy — and that passion has absolutely translated into her brownie business.

Ang started making brownies as a way to relieve stress, and with everything going on during the pandemic, she certainly had plenty to be stressed about. While she doesn't eat a lot of sweets, she loves chocolate and brownies, so it became her mission to bake the perfect brownie. After many attempts, she finally landed on the recipe. But then she got bored and began experimenting. She discovered Biscoff spread and topped her brownies with it, along with caramel and Biscoff biscuits. Soon, she started experimenting with biscuit bases, including the Anzac biscuit, and before long, Rockstar Brownies was born, with a range of nine different brownie flavours. 

Why “Rockstar”? Well, Ang is a massive fan of rock and roll bands, and her love for music became the inspiration behind the name. The name just seemed to fit her brownies — after all, they’re as bold and unforgettable as a rockstar performance. 

I still remember the first time I heard from her. She called during the week, introducing herself and offering to bring down some brownie samples for me to try. At the time, our sweets spots at the market were full, and I told her not to worry — I’d just check out her socials instead. But Ang showed up anyway, dropping off her now-iconic white box, plastic-wrapped and sealed for freshness. I didn’t open it until later that afternoon, after we were packing down and collecting road signs. I remember opening the box, and I kid you not — it felt like one of those movie moments where light beams out and angels sing. These brownies weren’t just good — they were something special. I messaged her straight away to say we’d love to have her on board. The only challenge? Figuring out where to fit her in. We ended up offering Ang a fortnightly spot — and from there, she hit the ground running. 

She arrived with beautifully displayed brownies on glass cake stands atop wooden trays. Each stand was labeled by hand, stacked in the most aesthetic way, and filled with flavours that quickly won hearts: Twix, Biscoff, Anzac, and Mint among them. The response was immediate — customers loved her. 

Over time, Ang refined her flavours, upgraded her display to her now-signature large rectangular cabinets, and introduced professional signage for each flavour line. She’s also introduced limited-edition drops throughout the year — like her Easter Hot Cross Blondie, Wagon Wheel slice, Cherry Ripe, and even a special Kiwi Box range. Most recently, she launched a caramel series that’s been a hit — from the OG caramel to salted caramel, there are now four incredible flavours to choose from.

These days, you can find Rockstar Brownies at all our Twilight Markets, regularly at our Saturday Thornlie Market, and Sunday at our Honeywood Market in Wandi. Ang has not only built a standout brand but has become a huge part of our community — always happy to support fellow vendors, lend a hand with branding and signage, and bring that same warmth and creativity to everything she does. 

Where to from here? Ang plans to continue perfecting and expanding her caramel range, with a particular focus on introducing more gluten-free options in her brownie selection. This will allow her to broaden her audience while also transitioning her kitchen to be fully gluten-free, ensuring that even more customers can enjoy her decadent treats. 

Watching her grow over the past two years has been such a privilege, and we’re so proud to have Rockstar Brownies as part of our market family.
